What You’ll Need to Build an eCommerce with wordpress

Domain and Hosting:

To create an e-online store with WordPress first, you’re going to need a domain name and hosting.

A domain name is what someone types into their browser to find your site and hosting is where your website lives.
If you already have a domain name, skip this step. Otherwise, go to Namecheap, Hostinger or Hostgator and purchase domain name for $9/year. If you want to use the domain name, you’ll pay $15/year. Choose address if you’re targeting U.S. audiences.

If you’re looking for an affordable, high-performing web hosting plan, I suggest Hostinger. Check out the Hostinger WordPress Starter plan.

Installing WordPress:

Next, you’ll need to install WordPress. WordPress is a CMS (Content Management System) that makes it easy to create and edit content.

To install WordPress, visit and click the Download button. After downloading the latest version of WordPress, unzip the file and upload the contents to your server.

Read the documentation that comes with your hosting package to determine how to access your cPanel.

WordPress & WordPress Theme:

WordPress themes are very easy to use. They are not difficult to install either. In fact, you don’t need to know any programming languages to install and use WordPress themes.

They offer lots of options that enable you to make your website look unique. You can design your own theme with ease and use it for your store.

You can also get WooCommerce themes from the ThemeForest marketplace. Most of these themes will offer great customer support.

It is good to have a look at the reviews left by previous users of a theme. These reviews will give you a clue about how the theme functions.

Installing WordPress Theme:

In general, most themes follow these conventions:

  1. To change the look of your WordPress site, visit the administration menu and click on Appearance > Themes.
  2. Just hit the “Add New” button to start customizing your site with new themes.
  3. You can do so in one of two ways from this page.
  4. Look in the Theme directory if you already know the name of the theme you wish to use.
  5. You can narrow down your options if you don’t know the specific name of the theme you want to use by checking the appropriate categories and then clicking the Apply Filter button.
  6. Hovering over a theme will reveal its settings; from there, you can either preview it by clicking the Preview button or immediately install it by clicking the Install button.
  7. When setup is complete, go to the Activate link.
  8. Now that you’ve finished, you can check out a preview of your site to see how it turned out.
  • Go to your site’s WordPress theme page and then click “Upload Themes” to upload the Astra theme you downloaded earlier.
  •   Select the Astra theme Zip file by clicking “Choose file.” Just select Open when ready.
  •  Select the file and then click “Install Now” to apply the Astra Theme.

Installing WooCommerce:

To create an e-commerce website WooCommerce is the best website builder there is. The versatility of WordPress allows you to sell anything.

  • Install and activate WooCommerce.
  •  Visit Plugins » Add New to install WooCommerce. To install WooCommerce, search for it and click Install Now. WordPress auto-installs WooCommerce.
  • After downloading, click “Activate.” After activating WooCommerce, the “Welcome to WooCommerce” screen and setup wizard appear. This wizard configures WooCommerce.
  •  Your online shop requires your name, email, and shipping address.
  • Enter your store’s address in the address area.
  • Press Continue when ready. Next, choose a retail type. Choose the industry that best fits your shop.
  • Please click continue. Next, choose the product categories for your online store. If you must ship, choose physical products. Several product categories are available.
  • Digital and physical products are offered. Diverse items can be profitable. Each product can be categorized.
  •  Click the button. Next, you’ll be asked about your company’s sales volume and plans to sell elsewhere. If you wish to overlook the fact that I don’t have any products, choose “I don’t have any yet.”
  • Click “Free Features.” Your site will automatically include no-cost extras.
  • Unchecking this box prevents unwanted WooCommerce plugin installations.
  •  You can set them up yourself if needed. Please choose Continue.

You’re done with WooCommerce’s basics.

Your WooCommerce shop can be set up in one of two ways. You may start with one of the Astra theme’s pre-made layouts. Here are some online storefront templates to get you started:
